TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

The experiences and encounters that occur during the early childhood years have a profound effect on children’s later attitudes about self and school and builds the foundation for their lifetime pursuit of happiness and success.

 

Children learn more in their early years than at any other time in life. We strive to incorporate valuable lessons into every experience children have at our Center.

AGE APPROPRIATE CURRICULUM

Over The Rainbow is committed to providing the highest quality experiences through a developmentally appropriate curriculum. Our curriculum includes:

 

  • Literature-based thematic month-long units.

  • Exploration and hands-on, interactive lessons.

  • Our teachers provide for each child’s individual learning style, interests, and goals

  • Daily activities that encourage learning, problem-solving, and logical thinking.

  • Daily schedules reflect appropriate practice relative to the age levels of the children.

  • Teachers provide developmentally appropriate and stimulating materials for the children that allow them to explore, manipulate, and problem solve.

  • Our children go outside every day to engage in varying learning opportunities.

  • We incorporate lessons that promote understanding and appreciation of cultural, ethnic, and racial diversity.

  • We have bi-lingual teachers that incorporate Spanish into their lessons.

HIGHEST EDUCATION STANDARDS

The Rhode Island Early Learning and Development Standards (RIELDS) are used as a foundation for the development of our classroom curriculum. Our lessons include activities from all the domains listed in the Standards: language, literacy, math, science, social studies, music, dance, art, gross motor, fine motor, and social-emotional. Teachers incorporate our outdoor environment as an extension of their classroom.

OUR GOAL

Our goal is to help children build a strong foundation on which to begin lifelong learning and to launch a positive sense of self, respect for others, and to make a positive contribution to the world.
